Stripe Doesn't Give You a Donation Receipt

Many organizations assume that once a donor gives through Stripe, the donor automatically receives an IRS-compliant donation receipt.

That’s not the case. Stripe only provides a payment confirmation — not an official acknowledgment that can be used for tax purposes.

To meet IRS standards, a donation receipt must include:

• Your organization’s legal name and EIN

• The donation amount and date

• A statement confirming no goods or services were provided in return (if applicable)

Without that, your donors can’t claim the deduction properly.

The good news is that this process can be automated. You can set up a flow so that every Stripe donation automatically triggers a properly formatted receipt — branded with your logo and sent instantly to the donor.

If you’d like to explore how to automate your donation receipts and stay compliant, reply in the comments and I will help you out.
